Our team recently completed a critical roofing project in Portland, Oregon, where we addressed a persistent leaking issue caused by improperly installed shingles on a low-pitch roof. The homeowner contacted us after noticing water damage inside their home, and we quickly identified the root cause: shingles are not suitable for low-pitch roofs, as they cannot effectively shed water. To resolve this, we removed the existing shingles and installed a durable TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) roofing system, ensuring a watertight seal and long-lasting protection.
We began by carefully removing the improperly installed shingles from the low-pitch roof, which were the primary cause of the leaks. During this process, we thoroughly inspected the roof deck to identify and repair any water damage or rot, ensuring a solid foundation for the new roofing system. Next, we installed a high-quality TPO membrane, specifically designed for low-pitch roofs, to provide superior waterproofing and durability. We tied the new TPO system into the existing roof, ensuring a seamless transition and complete protection against leaks. Using heat welding techniques, we sealed the seams to create a watertight barrier that prevents future leaks.
As part of the project, we also removed an outdated and unused B vent flashing, which was no longer necessary and could have posed a potential leak risk. We properly sealed the area to maintain the roof’s integrity and prevent water infiltration.
The homeowner was experiencing frequent leaks due to the improper use of shingles on a low-pitch roof. Shingles are not designed for low slopes, as they cannot effectively shed water, leading to pooling and leaks. By replacing the shingles with a TPO membrane, we accomplished leak prevention, as TPO is specifically designed for low-pitch roofs and provides a watertight seal. Additionally, TPO is highly resistant to UV rays, punctures, and weathering, ensuring long-term performance. Its reflective surface also reduces heat absorption, lowering cooling costs. Removing the unused B vent flashing eliminated a potential leak source, further protecting the home through preventative maintenance.
In Portland, where heavy rain is a common occurrence, a properly installed TPO roof is essential for preventing leaks and maintaining a home’s structural integrity. This project not only resolved the immediate issue but also provided a preventative solution to protect the home for years to come.
The homeowner was thrilled with the results, noting the immediate resolution of the leaks and the improved appearance of their roof. They now have peace of mind knowing their home is protected by a high-quality, long-lasting roofing system.
